Did Jesus have siblings? Theologians have debated it for centuries

The Gospels name four brothers of Jesus — James, Joseph, Jude and Simon — and mention sisters. Scholar Bruce Chilton of Bard College argues that the Greek word "adelphos" used in Mark's Gospel refers to literal blood siblings, not a metaphor. The Catholic and Orthodox churches reject this, holding Mary to be a perpetual virgin and identifying the named individuals as cousins or Joseph's children from a prior marriage.
