New Kratos-led God of War game officially in development, tied to Laufey

A new God of War game starring dad of war Kratos is already in development at Sony Santa Monica, and it's set to tie in to the events of the upcoming God of War Laufey quite deeply.

Speaking during a San Diego Comic-Con panel attended by GamesRadar+, Sony Santa Monica creative lead Cory Barlog seemingly slips up and mentions that he was recently chatting with "the director of the next Kratos game earlier this week about all the different things that are going on - oh, f***, did I just announce the next Kratos game?"

The Kratos-led God of War game didn't receive a title, an estimated launch window, target platforms, or any firm details, but Barlog did offer some light information: "Kratos is in another game immediately after this [that] directly connects to the events of the Laufey game, but don't say anything about it to anyone," he quips. "The franchise is going in some amazing directions"

"Everything we are doing in the Faye game is a continuation of what came before and to set up and expand what comes next," he adds. "Phranque [ the gelatinous cube ] has been around since the beginning. It's interesting to see how to build this world out. Everything in the game is setting up for something so amazing."

Just don't expect that next game to drop anytime soon since the studio is still finishing up God of War Laufey, which was also announced to be coming on February 16, 2026 . The upcoming PS5 game follows Faye, Kratos' lover and Atreus' mother, who finds herself stuck in an afterlife full of some very hostile gods and visions of her god-killing husband. The game has apparently been in the studio's plans for nearly 10 years , though it intends to also "always tell stories about Kratos."
