Scientists find humanity had a language 'golden age' 3,000 years ago

A study published in Science reveals that roughly 3,000 years ago a "golden age" of languages began, during which tens of thousands of tongues flourished worldwide over about 2,000 years. Over the past millennium that diversity has collapsed sharply, with many languages going extinct. The research maps the rise and fall of linguistic diversity across the entire Holocene.
