First contagious cancer in North American freshwater fish discovered in US-Canada lake
Scientists have identified the first known cancer transmissible among freshwater fish in North America, found in catfish living in a lake straddling the US–Canada border. Transmissible cancers are exceptionally rare in nature, making the discovery a significant scientific breakthrough. Researchers say the findings could shed new light on how cancers develop and spread between individuals.
