Death on the track and crash en route — Poland's darkest speedway year, 1976

On 25 July 1976, speedway rider Kazimierz Araszewicz died on the track during a match between clubs from Częstochowa and Toruń. Less than a month later, four of his teammates were nearly killed in a road accident on the way to the rescheduled fixture. Traumatised by the crash, the team forfeited the match by walkover.
