Wildfires near Madrid: 13 dead, 10,000 evacuated, state of emergency declared

The Spanish government declared a state of emergency as wildfires devastated areas around Madrid and Ávila. At least 13 people have been killed, making 2026 one of the deadliest wildfire years in the country's history.
