Family bank transfer and tax: when the taxman takes an interest in your gift
Not every bank transfer from a family member is automatically tax-free in Poland. Gifts within the closest family group are exempt but must be reported to the tax office within 6 months if they exceed 36,120 zł — failure to do so risks a 20% tax rate. It is worth checking obligations before accepting a large sum from parents or siblings.
