"Mystery shopper" bank scam returns – banks warn of legal consequences for victims

Job ads for "mystery shoppers" who supposedly test bank accounts are circulating again on classifieds and social media, promising easy remote work with no skills required and attractive pay. The role does not exist — it is a scam in which unwitting applicants can end up facilitating money laundering. Banks are warning that people who fall for it may face criminal prosecution.
