New Jersey bans surveillance pricing and electronic shelf labels in stores

New Jersey has passed the Fair Price Protection Act, banning retailers from using customers' personal data to set individualised prices — a practice known as surveillance pricing. The law also puts the brakes on the rollout of electronic shelf labels, which enable dynamic real-time price changes. It is among the first such regulations in the United States.
