Meta had planned to charge a $20 monthly subscription for a smart glasses feature allowing users to hear each other more clearly, despite the feature running locally on the device without any cloud processing. Following public backlash, the company has paused those plans, spokesperson Tyler Yee confirmed to The Verge. The feature will remain available without a subscription for now.
