Researchers Propose Searching for Long-Duration Pulsing Beacons in Hunt for Alien Life

Researchers Dániel Apai, Chia-Lung Lin and Kevin Wagner argue in a new arXiv preprint that SETI searches have focused too narrowly on laser-based signals modelled on our own technology. A resource-conscious alien civilisation, they suggest, might instead broadcast long-duration pulsing interstellar beacons — and those are what we should be looking for.
