Ex-FDA Food Safety Chief: Six Cyclospora Outbreaks, Only One Linked to Shredded Lettuce
Frank Yiannas, former director of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition, writes that the agency is currently investigating six separate cyclospora outbreaks, of which only one is linked to shredded iceberg lettuce. He argues that food safety and nutrition are deeply intertwined and must be addressed together. The record number of cyclosporiasis cases has prompted him to call for stronger support for FDA's food safety functions.
