Nvidia's Vera CPU: Olympus core claims 70–80% IPC lead over AMD EPYC

Nvidia has detailed its Vera CPU's Olympus core architecture, which prioritises single-thread IPC over clock frequency using a 10-wide decode front end and a graph prefetcher tuned for agentic AI workloads. The chip features 88 cores on a monolithic die with a single-NUMA-per-socket design — a deliberate trade-off that Nvidia's own engineers say hurts legacy workload performance. Nvidia's self-reported SPEC CPU 2026 results claim a 70–80% per-core advantage over AMD's EPYC 9755. Vera is Nvidia's first serious push into the AI server CPU market, where it faces Intel, AMD and Arm-based rivals.
