Gift paid directly to developer triggers tax bill for Polish families
Family gifts are exempt from tax in Poland, but only when the money goes to the recipient's account. If funds are wired directly to a third party — such as a property developer — the tax office may treat it as a separate taxable transaction and issue a demand for payment. Poland's Ombudsman has taken up the matter and called on the Ministry of Finance to change the regulations.
