Ascot's King George to pay record £2.5m in 2026, rivalling Arc de Triomphe
Ascot racecourse announced pre-tax profits of £10.5m for 2025 and revealed that next year's King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes will carry a British-record prize of £2.5m. The course is now debt-free after repaying the final £3m of the loan used to build its grandstand in 2006. Royal Ascot attendance set a new post-Covid record across all five days last month. The moves position Ascot as a direct rival to the Arc de Triomphe for Europe's top racing prize.
