Poland's PiS splits: Morawiecki and dozens of MPs leave after loyalty oath ultimatum
Poland's main opposition party Law and Justice (PiS) has split after former prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki and his allies refused to sign a loyalty oath to party leader Jarosław Kaczyński. Kaczyński announced that MPs who refused to sign had effectively left the party. The split significantly weakens the right-wing opposition ahead of the 2027 parliamentary elections.
