Yevheniy Chmar — special forces general takes over as Ukraine's acting defence minister

Yevheniy Chmar has risen from special-forces operator and commander of the elite Alpha unit to acting Ukrainian defence minister. President Zelensky is counting on his combat experience, expertise in long-range operations, and knowledge of security structures to strengthen oversight of the Defence Forces. Chmar is expected to improve management of the ministry during the ongoing war.
