West Bank town Sebastia added to UNESCO World Heritage list despite Israeli objections
The hilltop town of Sebastia, located roughly 10 kilometres northwest of Nablus in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status despite Israel's formal objections. The move is diplomatically significant given the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel opposed the designation, viewing it as a political statement by the UN body.
