France wildfires: over 20,000 evacuated near Bordeaux
Two major wildfires in southwest France, around 50 kilometres west of Bordeaux, have forced more than 20,000 people to evacuate, including hundreds of tourists caught during peak holiday season. Around 800 firefighters, backed by gendarmes and soldiers, are battling the blazes. The total area burned across EU countries this year is already the second largest on record, driven by scorching temperatures and strong winds linked to climate change.
