Wildfires near Madrid: thousands evacuate as heatwave fans the flames

Thousands of people were forced to evacuate as deadly wildfires swept through parts of Spain, France and Italy on Friday. Hundreds of firefighters backed by water-bombing aircraft battled blazes fuelled by scorching temperatures and strong winds. The fires near Madrid were among the most dangerous outbreaks.
