France orders Cap Ferret evacuation as wildfires spread

French authorities ordered the evacuation of the Cap Ferret peninsula on the Atlantic coast before 10am, mobilising hundreds of boats alongside the sole road connecting the area to the mainland. Thousands of people have been forced to flee south-west France as wildfires continue to spread. Fires are also raging in parts of Italy and Spain.
