Namecheap Handed Over Domain Account to Unverified Third Party Without Checking
A 13-year Namecheap customer lost control of a domain registered in his name after an incoming club leader called Namecheap support and convinced them — without any verification — that the domain belonged to his student club. The real owner had immediately filed a support ticket stating he had not initiated a password reset, but Namecheap handed over access anyway. The incident exposes a serious security gap in the company's account-verification procedures.
