Wildfire near Madrid forces 3,500 evacuations; over 100,000 ha burned across Spain

More than 3,500 people have been evacuated due to a wildfire near Madrid, prompting authorities to raise the regional alert to level two. Residents of neighbouring towns were urged to stay indoors and keep windows shut. Across Spain, fires have already burned through more than 100,000 hectares of land.
