AI Kill Switch Act would give US government power to shut down rogue AI systems
The proposed AI Kill Switch Act would amend the Homeland Security Act of 2002 to give the Secretary of Homeland Security authority to order the suspension or complete shutdown of AI systems deemed capable of causing catastrophic harm. AI developers would be required to build in technical kill-switch capabilities, and those refusing a shutdown order could face fines of up to $20 million per day of non-compliance.
