DOJ Drops NYT Subpoenas After Judge Calls Them 'Sloppy Legal Work'

The Department of Justice withdrew subpoenas targeting New York Times reporters after a judge sharply criticised the move as "sloppy legal work." The judge stressed that subpoenas must be a last resort, not a first step, citing rules designed to protect First Amendment rights. The case stemmed from NYT reporting on a Qatari-donated Air Force One plane given to the United States.
