Australia: Chalmers Rejects Gas Export Tax, Albanese Congratulates Andy Burnham
Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers has pushed back against Labor members calling for a new tax on gas exports, saying the government had "other priorities" for economic reform. He also warned that right-wing parties would "prey on" voter insecurities about a worsening economy. Financial markets are now pricing in another interest rate rise before the end of the year. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese separately called to congratulate Andy Burnham on his new role.
