Invasive American Comb Jelly Now Threatening the Baltic Sea
The comb jelly Mnemiopsis leidyi, considered one of the world's most harmful invasive species, has reached the Baltic Sea. The jellyfish-like organism, originally from the Americas, has already caused serious damage to the ecosystem and fisheries of the Venice Lagoon and is now threatening Baltic marine life. The species reproduces rapidly, making it extremely difficult to control.
