Sylwia Gregorczyk-Abram confirmed as new Polish Ombudsman, vows to prove independence

The Polish Senate on Wednesday confirmed lawyer Sylwia Gregorczyk-Abram as the new Commissioner for Human Rights (RPO). Critics from the PiS party have labelled her the "KO's spokesperson", but she pledged that from the moment of her oath she would set aside her personal political views. She stressed that the ombudsman must never represent partisan positions and vowed to demonstrate her independence to PiS MPs.
