Historian Dr Orzeł: '1670' exposes myths of noble equality and religious tolerance in old Poland
Historian Dr Joanna Orzeł, author of the book "My, Sarmaci" ("We, the Sarmatians"), appears on the programme "Dzieje" to analyse the hit series "1670" as a mirror of modern Polish identity. She dismantles the myth of noble equality and argues that the supposedly tolerant religious atmosphere of the old Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was largely fictional. She contends that contemporary Poles remain "Sarmatians in spirit."
