JWST finds neighbouring galaxy's AGN jet halted star formation in the Red Potato Galaxy

The James Webb Space Telescope has found that the "Red Potato Galaxy," an early-universe galaxy, stopped forming stars far sooner than expected. The likely culprit is an AGN jet from a neighbouring galaxy that cut off the cold gas supply needed for star formation. The finding sheds light on why some galaxies in the early universe became "quiescent" long before scientists thought possible.
