Wildfire engulfs French peninsula near Dune du Pilat — thousands evacuated

A fast-moving wildfire has swept through a popular tourist peninsula in southwestern France, near the Dune du Pilat and Cap Ferret — an area dubbed "the Hamptons of France." Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate as firefighters struggle to contain the blaze.
