NASA moves 130-foot liquid hydrogen tank for Artemis IV rocket core stage

On May 15, 2026, crews at NASA's Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans transported the 130-foot-tall liquid hydrogen tank for the Artemis IV mission out of its production cell and into a separate test building on the 829-acre site. The tank will form part of the core stage of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket, supplying super-cold propellant to one of four RS-25 engines. The move marks a key production milestone for the Artemis IV lunar mission.
