How fast is the universe expanding? Cosmologists still can't agree

Astronomers have known since the 1930s that the universe is expanding, and since the 1990s that this expansion is accelerating rather than slowing. Dark energy was proposed as the driver of that acceleration, but its nature remains unknown. Disagreements over the precise rate of expansion — the Hubble constant — represent one of the biggest unsolved problems in modern cosmology.
