NASA Satellite Spots 'Hummingbird' in Antarctica — It's Actually a Mountaintop

NASA's NISAR satellite has captured a striking image over East Antarctica that resembles a colourful hummingbird — but is actually the mountaintop of Nunatak Zaterjavshijsja. What appears to be the bird's tail is a stream of ice flowing northeast toward the ocean, while the "feathers" are crevasses formed by a glacier fracturing the mountain's surface. NASA featured the image as its Space Photo of the Day for 23 July 2026.
