Rare Roman military camp from Marcus Aurelius' era found in Slovakia — soldiers buried in wells

Archaeologists near the town of Šurany in southwestern Slovakia have uncovered an 18.2-acre Roman military camp likely used by Marcus Aurelius' troops during late 2nd-century conflicts with Germanic tribes. The site is described as "extremely rare" and contains hastily buried soldiers in unusual graves, including wells. Matej Ruttkay of the Slovak Academy of Sciences called it a unique opportunity to study an almost complete Roman marching camp in a European context.
