Mathematician Hong Wang proves landmark conjecture — but it wasn't blissful

Mathematician Hong Wang and collaborator Joshua Zahl presented a 127-page proof of a long-standing mathematical conjecture in February 2025. The proof sits at the intersection of multiple branches of mathematics and took months of internal checking and peer review before being shared more widely. Wang has described the experience of proving such a major theorem as far from blissful.
