850,000-Year-Old Homo Antecessor Bones Found in Spain Show Signs of Cannibalism

Archaeologists at Sierra de Atapuerca in Spain's Burgos province have uncovered 24 new Homo antecessor bones dating back approximately 850,000 years. Many of the fossils bear cut marks consistent with defleshing, which scientists interpret as evidence of cannibalistic practices among these prehistoric hominids. The find adds to the growing body of evidence from the Atapuerca site.
