Spain Wildfires Force Evacuations Near Toledo as Europe Burns

Wildfires in Spain have forced the evacuation of several districts around Toledo, 75 miles from Madrid. In 2025, more than 393,000 hectares were consumed by fire in Spain — the worst toll in the country's recent history, driven by extreme temperatures linked to climate change. Wildfires are also raging in southern France and Italy as much of western Europe faces a dangerous heat-driven fire season.
