Australia successfully tests hybrid air defence system firing SM-2 missile

Australia, with American assistance, successfully tested a hybrid medium-range ground-based air defence (GBAD) system during Exercise Taipan, firing an SM-2 interceptor missile. The "Frankenstein" solution integrates existing Australian sensors, software and weapons rather than buying expensive Patriot-type systems. Lockheed Martin and the US Navy were heavily involved in the prototype development.
