Canadian Goldenrod: Beautiful, Invasive and Threatening Poland's Nature

Canadian goldenrod, a plant native to North America, was introduced to Europe as an ornamental species and quickly spread beyond gardens into the wild. In Poland, the first documented occurrences outside cultivation date back to 1872, near Lublin and Kraków. Today it covers almost the entire country, colonising roadsides, wasteland and meadows and outcompeting native plant species, though it also provides habitat for some animals.
