St Kinga: the princess who swapped the throne for a nun's habit

On 24 July, the Catholic Church marks the feast of St Kinga — a Hungarian princess who, after ruling the powerful Duchy of Kraków, entered the Order of Poor Clares at Stary Sącz. She renounced her wealth and power in favour of prayer and service. She is the patron saint of Lesser Poland and salt miners, linked by legend to the Wieliczka salt mine.
