NASA's Psyche Probe Filmed Mars as a Thin Crescent During May 2026 Flyby
NASA's Psyche spacecraft photographed Mars throughout May 2026 during a flyby, producing a 75-second time-lapse video. At the start of the pass, only 4% of Mars's disc was illuminated by the Sun, creating a thin bright crescent with a glowing atmospheric haze visible in the images. At closest approach — less than 4,600 km from the surface — the cameras captured detailed geographical features of the Red Planet.
