NASA-ISRO NISAR satellite releases radar data — Antarctic "hummingbird" is ice and microwaves

Radar data from the NISAR satellite — a joint US-India mission — became publicly available on 20 July 2026. The datasets allow scientists to track changes on Earth's surface and analyse unusual formations, such as a hummingbird-shaped pattern spotted in Antarctica that turns out to be the result of microwave reflection off ice rather than any actual structure.
