Five soldiers killed in southern Thailand checkpoint attack in Narathiwat

Five Thai soldiers were killed in an attack on a military checkpoint in the southern province of Narathiwat. The assault occurred a day after a car bombing elsewhere in the same province wounded a police officer. Southern Thailand has long been plagued by a separatist insurgency.
