Germany approves Rosatom-linked nuclear fuel project in Lower Saxony

Lower Saxony's environment ministry has approved French company Framatome's plan to manufacture Russian-designed nuclear fuel rods in Lingen, northwest Germany. The project links Framatome — a subsidiary of French state-owned EDF — with Russia's TVEL, a unit of Kremlin-controlled Rosatom, which will supply key components but not operate the plant. Approval came with strict conditions to address security and espionage concerns raised by both regional and federal authorities.
