Pokémon Winds & Waves mechanic traces back to a 20-year-old Diamond & Pearl idea
Pokémon archivists have released previously unseen documentary footage covering the development of 2007's Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl. The footage reveals that Game Freak conceived ideas two decades ago that only surfaced in Pokémon Pokopia, and may reappear in the upcoming Pokémon Winds & Waves. The documentary also shows early starter designs and behind-the-scenes looks at how Game Freak develops its games.
