Text-to-SQL benchmarks fail to reflect real-world database complexity

A piece in Communications of the ACM argues that current text-to-SQL benchmarks fail to capture the real challenges of production database environments, such as ambiguous schemas, dirty data and complex business queries. The authors call for new benchmarks designed to reflect actual real-world conditions. Without such tests, research results may mislead practitioners deploying natural-language-to-SQL systems.
