DNA solves 400-year-old Medici family mystery

A centuries-old mystery surrounding the Medici family of Florence has reportedly been solved using DNA analysis, more than 400 years after it arose. According to CNN, the investigation centred on malaria and genetic material recovered from family remains. The findings were published in July 2026.
