Poland's Senate confirmed Sylwia Gregorczyk-Abram as the new Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman), succeeding Prof. Marcin Wiącek whose term ends July 23. She declared she would be "an advocate for all citizens" regardless of political affiliation. PiS candidate Adam Borowski, who lost the contest, self-proclaimed himself a "civic ombudsman." The Catholic institute Ordo Iuris predicted the office would collapse under her leadership.
