China demands Philippines stop maritime "provocations" as relations reach a crossroads

China's top diplomat called on the Philippines to immediately cease "maritime provocations," warning that bilateral relations are at "a crossroads." The statement followed a fresh incident near the Second Thomas Shoal, where Manila says Chinese personnel injured a Filipino sailor. Beijing and Manila have clashed repeatedly over control of disputed areas in the South China Sea.
